Cipriani’s was the venue for this year’s New York Women in Communications Gratitude Breakfast. Money raised from the event goes toward NYWICI’s scholarship fund of the New York Women in Communications Foundation.
M.C. was broadcast journalist Mary Alice Williams. After welcome addresses from the Foundation Board President, Kristine Welker, and NYWICI’s President, Nancy Rabstejnek Nichols, the keynote speakers took the stage: the actress Kathleen Turner and writer/activist Gloria Feldt.
Keeping true to the meaning of gratitude, Kathleen talked about her appreciation for the many chances that she had been given as an actress in the various stages of her life. Kathleen read an excerpt from her book that explained why she knew already in college that she wanted to play Martha in “Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf?” when she turned 50. She revealed that she was fascinated by Martha’s recklessness and saw the character as exciting and at the same time endearing. “I don’t want to be twenty again!” Kathleen exclaimed. “I’m having that creative surge that women often get after fifty. I feel at the top of my personal and professional life!” Looking back and taking the life lessons she’s learned, she moves forward.

After Martha...from Broadway World:
Kathleen Turner announced today on WNYC's "The Brian Lehrer Show," stage and screen star that, "You know what, I just yesterday was offered a new play on Broadway for the fall, which I'm extremely excited about. It's the new Albee play called Me, Myself and I, and I'm really thrilled with it."
"Me, Myself and I" had its premiere this past winter at the McCarter Theatre in Princeton, New Jersey. Press notes describe the play as ""When a pair of identical twin brothers are both named Otto, how's a mother supposed to keep them straight? Master playwright Edward Albee is in top form with this dark, funny and moving play that takes sibling rivalry to existential heights."

Turner passion for ties that bind
Kathleen was in Wales for the Hay Literary Festival the week of May 26. Yes, that was Kathleen hitchhiking to get breakfast for her daughter and herself. More:
Turner lived in London as a teenager where she found her love of acting
Actress Kathleen Turner has spoken movingly at the Hay Festival about her respect for her late diplomat father.
His work meant she was a teenager in London, where she gained her love of acting, but she long feared their cross words contributed to his heart attack. She also told how she had hitched a lift into the Powys town with a member of the laughing audience - who failed to recognise her...read the full article.
CATV rates SYR one of the year's "Five Must-Read Celebrity Memoirs".
Here's what they said: Kathleen Turner: Real-life juice"I think Kathleen Turner's recent memoir was quite good," says Kevin Howell, bookselling editor at Publishers Weekly in New York. In fact, Turner's fearless revelations about her life -- and the real cause behind her bloated, shaky appearance of recent years -- make this book such a winner.

Why Send Yourself Roses? “Before an opening performance, when I am feeling like I really need an affirmation, I’ll send myself a big bouquet of roses. Why should I wait around and hope that someone else will send me roses? If someone does, I will receive them with pleasure. But if no one does, I won’t have to be blue,”
Send Yourself Roses is frank, funny, irreverent, inspiring--like
Kathleen.
